Safaricom announced that all their shops would remain closed from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm on Thursday in honour of their late CEO, Bob Collymore.
They maintained that the move was made so as to allow their staff to have a few hours to reflect on the life of their beloved former boss.
"As a mark of respect for our cherished leader, Safaricom shall be closing all our shops countrywide on Thursday, July 4, 2019, between the hours of 10:30 and 2:30 pm," an excerpt of the statement declared.
A special memorial service is also scheduled to be held at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi during the same time frame.
Collymore was cremated on Tuesday at Kariokor in a private ceremony attended by close friends and a select group of friends, as well as few members of staff from Safaricom.
The charismatic leader passed away at his Nairobi home on Monday after a valiant battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
People from all walks of life across the country have been sending heartfelt tributes to the boss who ended up as one of the most well-known leaders in the country.
Citizen TV news anchor Jeff Koinange, gave a heartwrenching narration of Bob Collymore’s final days.
“I have never seen anyone prepare for death like Bob. He knew that he wasn’t gonna last very long as he had been told by his doctors not to make any long term plans. In fact, he was told if he makes it past July, he will be lucky,” Koinange remarked while struggling to keep his emotions in check.
Jeff was in the company of four other friends who had even formed a WhatsApp group in which they discussed and planned when they'd pay their ailing comrade a visit, with the next visit planned for Wednesday, July 3, 2019, but it wasn't to be.
The celebrated leader passed away at the age of 61 and is regarded as being responsible for launching some of Safaricom's most revolutionary products that propelled the telco company into new heights.
