Ex-MP Arrested for Attempting to Start Fight

Former Tetu MP Ndung'u Githinji is now cooling his heels in police custody after he attempted to start a fight over a highly contested property.

Reports indicate that the embattled former leader was arrested on Tuesday over real estate properties in Kitisuru area, Nairobi County.

He was accused of inciting goons to attack a lawyer and a number of tenants of an estate in the region.

Police officers pounced on him at his Kitisuru home and drove him to Flying Squad offices for grilling.

It is, however, unclear how long the grilling lasted or what he was asked about during the meeting.

Confirming the incident, Head of Flying Squad Musa Yego divulged that Githinji, who was arrested alongside two other people, would be arraigned in court on Wednesday.

He further explained that the authorities had launched a manhunt for other suspects.

In his defence, the former lawmaker's family members argued that the arrest was politically motivated and that his enemies were out to get him.

Githinji owns several houses in the sprawling suburb.
