Itumbi Narrates How 14 Officers Accosted Him When Taking Lunch

Dennis Itumbi, who is the Digital Director in the communications department of the presidency working under the office of the Deputy President, was arrested on Wednesday.

Itumbi narrated how the arrest took place as he was having lunch at a city restaurant near City Hall.

He told reporters how 14 officers approached him while having lunch at the Charlie Bistro restaurant on Wabera Street and introduced themselves as Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers.

Itumbi further narrated that he made a request for them to allow him to finish his meal but they flatly declined.

However, the officers were kind enough to let him have his meal packed so that he could have it as a takeaway.

The former journalist went on to reveal that he was escorted to the three vehicles that the officers had arrived in.

He was then driven to DCI headquarters for questioning about the letter alleging a plot against Ruto.

On arrival, he was ushered to a boardroom where 11 detectives asked to take a statement from him.

According to The Standard, he had demanded to speak to his lawyer, Moses Chelang’a, who arrived moments before his scheduled interrogation.

Itumbi was then held at the Muthaiga Police Station where another suspect, identified as Sam, who was picked on Tuesday was being detained.

He then revealed that he had exercised his right to remain silent and declined to record a statement since the officers never informed him why he was arrested.

On the advice of my lawyer, I have not recorded any statement and will not do so until the police disclose why they arrested me,” he affirmed from Muthaiga Police Station.
