Watch Dennis Itumbi Plead With Judge Over Detention

Digital Innovations and Diaspora Communications Secretary Dennis Itumbi on Thursday pleaded with the judge not to detain him at Kamukunji Police Station.

Itumbi cited that he had knowledge of how infamous the police station is.

Your honour, I listened carefully to the prosecution applying for me to be held at Kamukunji Police Station. That’s a place I'm familiar with, from my time as a journalist and also as a government officer. It’s a place where hardcore criminals are held, suspects of terror, murder too,” Itumbi lamented.

Itumbi also alleged that the DCI had tried to coerce him into cooperating deviously.

When I was arrested, I was interviewed by the DCI. They have accused me of not cooperating. In fact, I wanted to cooperate with them, but the problem is that they wanted me to cooperate in a certain way,” Itumbi cried foul.

The judge headed his plea and gave the authorities five more days to hold Itumbi at Muthaiga Police Station to allow investigations to be conducted.

He was arrested on Wednesday after revelations that the fake letter, that claimed there was a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto, was traced to have originated from a source close to the DP.

14 officers approached him while having lunch at the Charlie Bistro restaurant on Wabera Street, Nairobi, and introduced themselves as Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers.

He was then driven to DCI headquarters.

On arrival at the offices along Kiambu Road, he was ushered into a boardroom where 11 detectives asked to take a statement from him.
