Kenyans who keenly follow Deputy President William Ruto have noticed that over the years, he has shed off quite some weight.
In this article, Kenyans.co.ke will take you through the events that triggered Ruto to hit the gym on a regular schedule.
During a past interview with Citizen TV, he narrated that it all began with a photo of him that was not flattering.
"I decided to go to the gym after I realised that my weight was getting out of hand...in a specific incident when I had gone to Western Kenya to inspect the problems with sugar (farming), a photograph was taken and it showed me in very bad shape with my tummy protruding.
"A friend called me the next day and told me 'man you're doing badly'," he recalled.
After that, the DP included the gym as part of his daily routine, one which even Senator Kipchumba Murkomen confessed that he can't keep up with.
Ruto has also tried to get his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, to exercise in a number of Beyond Zero marathons which they have appeared together.
During the 2016 edition of the marathon, Ruto accidentally ran 21km after he missed a turn and ended up on the long route instead of the shorter 10km course he had intended.
In 2019, he successfully completed 21km without pausing to take a rest or walk after which Uhuru vowed to participate in the next edition of the run.
"There is a small problem sir. The 2km that you had indicated would be your first trial, I am told the category is for the expectant mothers.
"I don't think you want to go and race with pregnant mothers. You (Uhuru) have no choice but to start with the 5km," the DP told President Kenyatta as the crowd burst out in laughter.
"Mchokozi William, mwaka ujao nitakimbia eeh. Nilikua nafikiria nitakimbia hiyo 2km, lakini sasa umeniingilia zaidi (William has pestered me so next year I will be running. I had planned to take part in the 2km race, but you have taunted me too much).
"Nitafanya a minimum of 5km but tutaona kama tutaweza 10km (I will run the 5km but if possible, we can do the 10km as well," Uhuru responded.
