Kenyan songstress and radio presenter, Patricia Kihoro, was on the end of a painful ordeal, as she was among a group of musicians who were teargased at Central Police Station, on Saturday.
"They asked us to leave the lobby and go outside. We did. They told us to leave the station. Some folks had their cars parked inside the station and wanted to get them and leave. Teargas ndio hio. Wauuuuuuu. Went back to the waiting area because the gate is locked," Kihoro tweeted.
The Afrocentral show host at Homeboyz Radio, had made her way to the police precinct alongside her associates, to remonstrate against the arrest of several civilians, a videographer and a member of the security personnel, at The Elephant (a popular live music venue in Nairobi).
They were arrested by agents claiming to have been from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), who went on to rough house several band members.
"Wow. So dudes walk into The Elephant, I thought we were getting robbed. They don’t say who they are, they ask for a permit it’s shown, they end up getting violent, brandishing sticks, punching women and trying to take away equipment," she tweeted.
Upon learning the whereabouts of the arrested individuals, Kihoro and the rest of the team then made their way to Central Police Station, where angry officers forcefully evicted them and launched several teargas canisters within the precincts car park.
The incident came soon after Eric Wainaina's wife, Sheba Hirst, was brutally assaulted by county askaris during the chaotic incident at The Elephant.
Taking to Twitter, the social activist revealed that she was punched by county askaris during the function.
According to Hirst, the askaris showed up 10 minutes before they wrapped up the event and informed them that they had violated regulations.
However, true to her fun-loving and jovial nature, Ms Kihoro took the whole ordeal in stride and even managed to send out a joke to her loyal twitter followers.
"Mimi leo nimejua macho zangu ni first bodi. loosely translating to, today I got to learn just how tough my eyes are because right in the midst of a room full of teargas for about half an hour, I have not shed a single tear. I saw cops crying but mimi huyo...But nilikohoa, loosely translating to, I saw cops crying but I just coughed," an excerpt of her tweet divulged.
