Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, took some time out during his tour of the Coast, to take Kenyan legendary boxer, Conjestina “Hands of Stones” Achieng, out on a shopping spree, on Sunday, at Naivas supermarket in Ukunda, Mombasa.
The governor asked the veteran boxer to pick out anything she desired and in whatever quantity, going on to ask his aides to help her as well.
Conjestina and the Nairobi governor picked out several items for the Diani Golden Rehabilitation Centre, where the boxing queen has been receiving her medication.
Whenever she picked out an item, Sonko's aides added at least five to ten more of the same as per the Nairobi Governor's instructions.
Sonko had been moved to help the ailing boxer back in November 2018, after a video of the former boxing queen looking like a pale shadow of her former self went viral.
He also promised to secure her a job at the Nairobi Sports Management Board after she completed her rehabilitation.
“My team led by the Nairobi City County Government Sports Board is leading the mission to airlift the veteran boxer who brought pride to the nation by winning several international boxing titles. I’ll personally ensure Conjestina is fully treated and rehabilitated before she’s assisted to get a stable job to enable her to become financially independent,” Sonko vowed at the time.
In the latest video, Conjestina, clad in a Kenya-team sweat top, looked to be in high spirits as well as healthier, compared to 2018's viral video and images.
It took the cashier at Naivas quite some time to run all the items which included maize flour, eggs, shoes, a suitcase, cooking oil among numerous other items.
Sonko then took some time to address the crowd that had gathered outside the supermarket, going on to state that his new outfit, Team Wanjiku, was geared towards tackling issues facing the common mwananchi.
"We are focused on Wanjiku. Wanjiku is mama Mboga, the cobbler, mason, fish vendor, hawker, tout. We know you are hungry," he divulged.
