On Sunday, Bomet Governor, Joyce Laboso, silently jetted back into the country from India, where she was hospitalised for almost a month.
According to The Star, Laboso's return was planned in such a way to avoid attracting a lot of attention. It was reported that since she has been away, residents would have attempted to go receive her at the airport, an incident they had to avoid.
"Governor Joyce Laboso has today (Sunday) arrived from India where she has been undergoing medication. She has greatly improved, let us continue praying for her quick recovery," majority leader at the Boment County Assembly, Josphat Kirui, posted on his social media pages.
According to Kirui, Laboso will, however, not resume her duties as expected but will continue receiving her treatment at a local facility in Nairobi.
The Jubilee governor was accompanied by her husband, Edwin Abonyo, and close family members, who had been with her abroad.
The governor's incognito arrival, on Sunday, even caught many of the senior officials at the county unawares.
Speaking on phone to Kenyans.co.ke, Head of Communications at Bomet County, Ezra Kirui, praised the governor for his speedy recovery and wished her well.
"As for now, I cannot say when she will be back at work. However, we are pleased by her speedy recovery and we are happy to have her back," he stated.
Governor Laboso left the country on May 29 for the United Kingdom, where she stayed before she was later transferred to India for further treatment.
Her arrival ends week-long speculations among the residents, who have been camping outside county offices inquiring about her medical progress.
Among those who visited the governor at the London hospital were ODM leader, Raila Odinga, Chief Justice, David Maraga, and Kericho Governor, Paul Chepkwony.
Former Bomet County boss, Isaac Rutto, and Chepalungu MP, Gideon Koskei, also left the country to visit her.
