Somoina Kimojino Appointed Homeboyz General Manager

Homeboyz Radio on Monday announced the appointment of Somoina Kimojino as its new General Manager (GM).

The news came as a surprise as Kimojino was the current MD at Capital FM right until her recent appointment. Her exit comes right after a mass exodus by presenters such as Maqbul and Cess Mutungi of Jam984, Sharon Mundia and Susan Wong of My Two Cents, and Anita Nderu among others, who cited various reasons for leaving.

According to a Homeboyz memo seen by Kenyans.co.ke, she is set to begin her new responsibilities immediately.

"The Board of Directors of Homeboyz Radio announces the appointment of Somoina Kimojino as General Manager with immediate." stated the memo.

The company board chairman, Myke Rabar, further described the incoming director as "one of the most respected executives in the media industry in the region, and she brings with her a wealth of knowledge and networks in the radio and events business'.

Somoina is expected to help double the listenership of Homeboyz Radio amongst Kenya’s millennials as well as drive the station’s events business.

Additionally, she will be entrusted with building brand partnerships and delivering significant profitability for Homeboyz.

Somoina, a veteran in the radio and events industry for the past 15 years, has had experience as the Director of Programmes at Capital Radio and Head of TV at CNBC.

She is attributed as to having pioneered and brought back the concert culture back to Kenya which have seen the likes of Joe, Johnny Gill, Erykah Badu, Papa Wemba, Freshly Ground, Baaba Maal just to name a few through Tusker Lite Experience, The Lounge Unplugged and now the curator of one of Kenya’s largest festivals The Koroga Festival.

Speaking to kenyans.co.ke, Somoina stated that, "for me, the highlight has been growing some of the best talent and Koroga festival with I was the curator of. So, I wish them(mentees)success as they take the brand to the next level."

“I am excited to take Homeboyz Radio to the next level. I am focused on making it the leading truly integrated next-generation radio, online and event business in Africa. We will deliver a new and exciting platform for our listeners and deliver information and entertainment that truly transforms their lives,” stated the elated Kimojino.
