Touching Story of How IG Mutyambai Suffered as a Junior Officer

Inspector-General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, on Tuesday, treated his officers to a story of his woes as a junior officer.

Speaking at the Security of Government Buildings and VIP Protection headquarters in Nairobi, while addressing protection officers, he touched on the issue of the sorry state of police residences, especially those of junior officers.

At that moment, Mutyambai told a story of how he also suffered in a tiny squeezed room, while serving as a constable.

"I lived in this kind of condition, and I can tell you a story. Where I used to live, we shared the house with another officer, who was a boxer. When I returned from work, I would find both boxers (Mutyambai's roommate and a friend) seated on both beds," disclosed the police boss.

"And since they were too strong, I was often forced to leave and give them time. I was powerless. I was a junior and I was young, so I understand the challenges these officers undergo," he revealed

The IG further admitted that he would not like to see officers living in a similar state, especially while serving the nation.

"I would not like to see my officers living in this condition. One special attachment I have with officers, and in particular, junior officers, is because I started as a constable and I know what affects the junior officers," admitted the IG.

Mutyambai made it his mission to improve junior police residences, to alleviate their suffering.

"I have committed myself, this financial year. I will dedicate a bit of our budget on modernisation to put up some decent houses in these areas," promised Mutyambai.

"I don't want officers to live the same way I did 25 to 30 years ago because a lot has changed since," he concluded.
