CS Matiang'i Takes Over Uhuru's Cabinet Duties

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, has now officially taken over President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cabinet duties.

CS Matiang’i, who has been in charge of the cabinet’s sub-committees, will now also be chairing the weekly cabinet meetings, a fete previously reserved just for the president.

According to reports by The Star, the Interior CS chairs all cabinet meetings that discuss the development projects in the country.

On the other hand, the president only chairs meetings that try to resolve a crisis or involving the national budget.

Despite this, the president still receives daily updates on matters that involve the cabinet, from the head of public service, Joseph Kinyua.

In January 2019, Kenyatta appointed Matiang'i as the chair of the National Development Implementation and Communication Committee.

The Committee also plays a supervisory role in the delivery cycle of the government programmes and projects.

The move was also allegedly advised by the fact that the cabinet was getting divided, over the allegations that some cabinet secretaries were holding meetings to plan the assassination of Deputy President William Ruto.

The move has further sidelined DP Ruto, who was pushed into the field to launch development projects, ever since Matiang'i took over his new role.
