A woman in Lodwar town was hailed for her bravery after she single-handedly foiled a robbery at her M-Pesa shop.
The two suspects, Jane Wambui and George Lumumba, were said to be part of a gang that had been terrorising M-Pesa operators in the Turkana County town.
Rose Kwamboka narrated how the two came to her shop posing as customers and when she was distracted from them, they grabbed her phone and some money and ran towards a waiting getaway car.
Kwamboka ran after them screaming attracting the attention of passers-by who helped her nab the suspects.
"They came to the shop and posed as customers, took my M-Pesa phone and left for me theirs and ran towards their car," stated Kwamboka.
The Standard reported that the angry mob descended on the suspects before they were rescued by police officers.
"I started shouting and pursued them, and people caught up with them and started beating them up,” she added.
One of the suspects, said to be the driver of the car, a Toyota Wish KBJ 732A, left it at the scene and escaped on foot.
Kwamboka stated that despite her efforts to chase them down, the suspects still managed to swap her sim card.
"During the scuffle, the suspects swiped the M-Pesa line which had afloat of about Ksh 200,000,” Kwamboka continued.
Turkana County DCI officer, James Lelai, confirmed the arrests and stated that they were also pursuing the other suspect that escaped.
He further urged the public to remain alert and assist the officers in nabbing the other suspects.
