Ex-MP Silvanus Osele Hospitalised After Accident [PHOTOS]

Former Kabondo Kasipul MP, Silvanus Osele Onyango, was, on Wednesday, involved in a road accident on the Kakamega-Kisumu highway.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred after the former legislator's vehicle hit a cow and a boda-boda rider.

Confirming the incident, Western region Police Commander, Rashid Yakub, stated that four other passengers were on board the Toyota Prado at the time of the accident.

The politician, who is part of President Uhuru Kenyatta's Delivery Unit, was rushed to Kakamega Referral hospital and was transferred to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu for advanced medical attention.

Unfortunately, the boda-boda rider, who was knocked down, succumbed to the injuries and taken to Kakamega Referral hospital morgue.

When he was elected in 2013, Osele made history as the youngest MP in the 11th Parliament.

He took pride in the feat, revealing in a previous interview with The Standard, that he was a role model to many aspiring politicians.

"Being young in many ways makes you a role model and an inspiration to the youth. The challenge is that some people may end up dismissing you and your opinion in every sense. I would like to inspire the ambitions of young people so that they realise they can achieve their dreams the challenges notwithstanding," he disclosed.

The father of two revealed that he used to live in Mathare slums, where he earned Ksh40 a day working in a barbershop.

"I would spend Ksh20 on fare and save Ksh20 for my meals. I did this for several months until I landed my first job as a legal assistant with the Union of Hotels. I also did some work with the Kenya National Commission for Human Rights," he explained.
