Lucky Escape for Obado as Court Dismisses His Case

A firearms case against Migori Governor, Okoth Obado, has been dropped by a Nairobi court.

This is after investigations revealed that the governor did not obtain eight firearms found in his home and office illegally as had been suspected.

Joyce Ngadani, the magistrate handling the case, ruled that the guns be returned to Obado after the court heard that he had acquired them rightfully.

She added that there was no further evidence to support the case which started around the same time he was implicated in the death of Rongo University student, Sharon Otieno.

In November 2018, five of the firearms were recovered in his Nairobi home, while three others were discovered at his home in Uriri, Migori County.

Sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) were investigating the alleged misappropriation of Ksh2 billion county funds.

The governor was released on a Ksh 500,000 bond and a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Ksh 200,000 on November 16, 2018, after he had spent two nights in custody.

Obado is still facing murder charges against Sharon, which occurred on September 3, 2018.

He is co-accused alongside his two aides, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero.
