Sonko Dares His Minister to Resign After Twitter Complaint

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, on Tuesday, dared his Roads CEC, Hitan Majevdia, to resign over poor state of roads in the city.

Taking to social media, the flamboyant governor insinuated that there was corruption at play after a complaint on Twitter exposed the sorry state of Nairobi roads.

Sonko revealed that machines had been procured over 8 months ago and were set to correct the potholes on city roads yet nothing was being done.

It was at that moment that he dared the CEC to work for Nairobians or vacate the office and pass it over to whoever can.

"CEC (Majevdia) and PS for Roads in Nairobi County, can you tell Nairobians what happened to the pothole patching machines and the new asphalt plant for making bitumen that was procured 8 months ago?

"Where are our internal road recarpeting equipment ambazo (which) our road engineers were using to recarpet county roads ama (or) you are grounding them ndio (so that) all the works zifanywe na (are done by) private contractors," questioned Sonko.

"Kama kazi inawalemea (if the work is too tough), resign and go home. We have many young energetic engineers who are jobless in Nairobi," continued Sonko.

The governor, therefore, gave the County Executive Committee member, together with his PS, a 14-day ultimatum to act or else he should step down.

Sonko has also revealed that he is set to reshuffle his cabinet since he has noted that some members are not carrying out their mandates as required.

“Some of these CECs come here as angels but as soon as they join the cartels they change. Some also think that because they were brought here by godfathers, they cannot be fired.

“I want to tell you today that I will not hesitate to fire them,” threatened the governor.
