Former Kidero Staffer Ordered to Surrender Shady Ksh300 Million Wealth

Former Nairobi County Finance boss, Jimmy Kiamba, was on Wednesday ordered to pay a sum of Ksh282 million for his unexplained assets.

The ruling at the high court was passed by Anti-corruption court judge, Hedwig Ong'undi.

She also directed that Kiamba pays Ksh35 million to the state and in default, his Runda property would be forfeited.

Judge Ong'undi ruled that the evidence presented by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) was enough to prove the former finance boss was involved in shady dealings.

“The upshot of my analysis is that the commission has established on a balance of probability that the cash deposits which Kiamba tried to explain through the revenue collection constitute unexplained assets,” the judge remarked.

Eyebrows were raised during Kiamba's hearing after the EACC presented a total breakdown of the embattled former county officer's earnings.

During the period in question (August 2009 to February 2015), the former finance director's net salary totalled at Ksh5.8 million.

This was found to be quite puzzling, once his latest bank statements were produced, showing his extensive wealth valued slightly above Ksh1 billion.

Judge Hedwig questioned Kiamba's mysterious source of wealth, pointing out that the highest salary in his previous position was capped at Ksh 145,320.

“This was a state of affairs that required an explanation. I am therefore convinced from the totality of the evidence that commission’s suspicion of corruption or economic crime having been committed by Kiamba was reasonable hence the investigation,” the judge declared.
