Justice Lessit Kicks Journalists Out of Courtroom

Fiery High Court Judge, Jessie Lessit, on Friday, kicked out journalists who were covering embattled lawyer Assa Nyakundi's case from her courtroom.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, one of the journalists attached to Royal Media Services explained that they had entered the courtroom ready to carry out their duties when they were abruptly shown the door.

Lessit, however, did not give an explanation for her sudden move which left the scribes confused outside the premises.

"Yes, she chased us away but we were not given an explanation why," stated the journalist.

Nyakundi was charged with manslaughter after he reportedly shot and killed his son Joseph Bogonko Nyakundi, on March 17.

The case had earlier been postponed following the defence team's request for adequate time to prepare and the suspect's right to be represented by a lawyer of his choice.

Lessit is known for her no-nonsense and tough stance on matters including when she recently refused to recuse herself from Migori Governor Okoth Obado's murder trial.

She explained that she would stay put dismissing claims that she was biased against Obado’s associates, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero.

“He who alleges must prove and in this case, the two applicants have failed to prove bias of this Court.

“The applicants, in this case, have laboured on the wrong interpretation of the court’s ruling because other than the apprehension of bias which is a state of mind no other ground has been advanced,” she ruled at the time.
