DCI Nabs Officer Extorting Money From Nairobi Clubs

DCI detectives, on Friday night, arrested Police Constable Cosmas Mwema following allegations of extorting money from bars in Langata.

Taking to Twitter, the DCI disclosed that the officer attached to Nyayo Police Post was constantly threatening bar operators.

"Police Constable Cosmas Mwema of Nyayo Police Post was Yesterday arrested on allegations of extorting money from Bars and Wines & Spirit Shops in Langata every Friday.

"Any bar operator who failed to give the money was threatened with immediate arrest. To be arraigned on Monday,' the DCI posted.

The Star reported that Mwema, of service number 83479, demanded Ksh527 from the operator of Rings Pub in Southlands. The money was sent to him via M-PESA.

He moved further to Mabatini Bar near Lang'ata High School where he demanded and received Ksh300 in cash.

He was arrested at 7 pm on Friday night and booked at Lang'ata Sub County Police Station after the victims reported him.

"Both reporters allege the officer has a habit of collecting Ksh1000 from bar and wines and spirits shops in Lang'ata every Friday and any bar operator who fails to give money is threatened with immediate arrest," police disclosed.

Mwema is also accused of deserting duty from Nyayo police post on June 2 this year, and has never reported back.

He will be arraigned in court on Monday.
