Mutilated Body of Missing Nurses' Boss Found in Forest

The mangled up body of the Kisumu Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) deputy chair, Ferdinand Ongeri, was found dumped in Kimondi Forest, on Saturday.

Ongeri had been declared missing on Wednesday last week, with the last person who saw him alive identified as a boda boda operator who dropped him off at a dispensary in Riat.

Reports by the Daily Nation revealed that his body was discovered by a group of herdsmen who had taken their livestock out to pasture.

The discovery was confirmed by Nandi County Police Commander, Samson Ole Kine, who said that preliminary investigations pointed towards a possible murder, based on the nature of the injuries, adding that they found no identification documents on the body.

Ole Kine went on to disclose that further scrutiny of the corpse also indicated signs of a struggle between the slain KNUN official and his murderers, based on the injury marks.

"It seems the man was murdered elsewhere before his body was dumped in the forest,” the Nandi police boss remarked.

Ongeri's close colleague and Nandi KNUN branch chairperson, Maurice Opetu, who was one of the people who last saw him on the day of his disappearance, told the police that he last saw his deputy at 11 am on the day he was declared to be missing.

"Mr Ongeri attended a successful meeting with (Kisumu County) chief officer of health on Wednesday at the county offices before he left at 11 am for Riat Dispensary where he worked,” Opetu narrated.

At around 3 pm, Ongeri is reported to have called his boda boda rider who ferried him to Kiboswa market.

“The last person to be in contact with Mr Ongeri is a boda boda rider,” Opetu affirmed.

The decomposing body of the late KNUN official was reportedly taken to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was positively identified by union officials and his family.
