Sonko in Desperate Search of Girl Who Touched His Heart

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, sent out a desperate plea, on Sunday morning, regarding anyone who could help track down a young girl named Faith Mwende Mailu.

This was after a clip of Mwende pleading that Kenya's first lady, Margaret Kenyatta, help her undergo bone marrow transplant surgery in India, as she suffers from Aplastic anaemia.

The life-threatening condition occurs when the body stops producing enough new blood cells. Aplastic anaemia leaves one feeling fatigued and with a higher risk of infections and uncontrolled bleeding.

Mwende's poem toggled at Sonko's heartstrings with a tear-jerking Swahili poem, in which she narrates her daily suffering due to the disease.

Sonko frustratingly explained how his efforts to track her down had been unsuccessful thus far, with the number linked to the video going unanswered.

"Someone sent this clip to me from 0722553479 but now not answering. So touching and willing to chip in as we wait for Her Excellency Mama wa taifa to come back from Zambia. May the Lord heal her," he posted on his facebook page.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Director Communications Governor Press Service & Media Chief Officer Nairobi County, Jacob Elkana, affirmed that the governor was still looking for Mwende by the time of publishing.

Mwende, in her poem, further revealed she was currently a pupil at Musyini primary school, Kibwezi East, Makueni County.

Thousands of netizens were moved by the girls' plight and offered to help in any way they could.

"Mheshimiwa this kid comes from Makueni County, can someone trace her parents, please!! I believe we can raise funds as well-wishers we help her," Bota Isaiah posted.

"I am from Kisii but if you find her please create a pay bill number and people will send donations starting with myself. Please, governor, do something and God will help you. May almighty God heal this young soul from this pain she is undergoing," Hesbon Okemwa posted.

Anyone with any links or news regarding the whereabouts of Mwende could reach the Nairobi governor directly on his facebook page or his emergency contacts which he recently shared (text or send WhatsApp messages to 0739555555 or 0722886600)
