Former Jubilee Party Vice Chairman, David Murathe, seems to agree with Deputy President William Ruto on how the opposition should be constituted in the next government.
While appearing in an interview with K24 TV's Anne Kiguta, on Sunday evening, Murathe stated that he held the same opinion as DP Ruto.
"They are saying themselves, even the deputy president, that you must create a role for the losing side. Particularly when the country is split right down the middle," he commented.
"I'm not suggesting for a moment that the winner accommodates the loser in terms of the proposals by Muthaura. Create that position with the status of the official leader of oppostion. Uhuru himself was the official leader of the opposition after Kanu lost to the Narc administration," Murathe went on.
"In fact, it was the same deputy president who was suggesting that the loser, who is the candidate, becomes like the official leader of the opposition," the former Jubilee Party boss explained.
Murathe, like the DP, was also of the opinion that such changes did not require a referendum to implement.
DP Ruto, who spoke on Punchline's debut show on July 21, also made his stand known about how to strengthen the opposition.
The DP explained that there was confusion in the opposition because the current system does not allow its leaders to be Members of Parliament.
"In my opinion, it doesn't require a referendum for us to give proper infrastructure for the leaders of the opposition to take up their responsibilities in Parliament, to be able to hold to the government to account," Ruto spoke.
"Any government is going to be as competent as the opposition that is checking it," he added.
Through amendments of the law in Parliament, the DP proposed that the leader of the opposition and their running mate should automatically become MPs.
