Opposition leader Raila Odinga's wife, Ida Odinga, has disclosed why the death of the late Bomet Governor, Joyce Laboso, has affected her.
While penning an emotional tribute to Laboso, Ms Odinga divulged that she first met the late governor at Kenya High School, where she was her student.
"Today I mourn a student, a colleague and a friend. I first met Joyce when I was teaching at Kenya High School and the young lady enrolled as my student," she noted.
Mama Ida added that their relationship had blossomed over the years, turning into an amazing friendship.
"Always humble, respectful, social and friendly. Joyce made history in this country. I have personally lost a great friend," Ida noted.
She praised the late governor for making history by being among the three women elected in the gubernatorial seat in the 2017 elections.
"She is proof that African women can soar beyond negative stereotypes if given equal opportunities. Kenya has lost a pillar that was the symbol of unity and development," she concluded.
The governor died aged 58 at The Nairobi Hospital, where she had been admitted in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit for two weeks.
Her death comes two weeks after she silently jetted back to the country on July 14, after a medical trip to India and the United Kingdom.
