In 2017, former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto sent a crowd into uncontrollable laughter after revealing why his youngest son got stuck in class one for 4 consecutive years.
Ruto was speaking at a rally during the 2017 presidential campaigns.
The outspoken politician claimed that the failure by the Jubilee government to implement their manifesto, that was very well crafted, made his child refuse to move to the next class as he awaited the fulfilment of the laptop project.
The free laptop for all standard one children in public primary schools was hailed as one of the most colourful Jubilee promises but has since stalled.
"Hawa ni waongo, maneno yao ni kama ile ya laptop.
"Si mnajua yule kijana wangu mdogo? Amebaki standard one 2012 anangojea laptop 2013. 2013 amerudia standard one anangojea laptop. 2014 bado anangojea laptop. 2015,2016,2017…
"Sasa ninawaomba tafadhali, tuma Jubilee nyumbani kijana yangu aende standard two. Ama namna gani?Asiendelee kubaki,"
(These people are liers, just like they lied about free laptops. I am certain you know about my young son. He repeated standard one in 2012 because he was waiting for the free laptops in 2013. It was the same case in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017…
"So now I'm humbly asking you, send this Jubilee government home so that my son can finally move on to standard two. Don't you think so? At least he will be able to move on), " Ruto remarked.
His statement obviously elicited debate among Kenyans with some wondering if indeed he was telling the truth.
Others questioned whether Ruto's children attended public schools in the first place.
