Nyeri Governor, Mutahi Kahiga, on Friday, inspected the Mwai Kibaki Teaching and Referral Hospital (Othaya Hospital) in readiness for its opening on Tuesday, August 6, 2019.
Taking to social media, Kahiga posted several photos of the facility noting that its opening was a testimony that the cooperation between the National Government and the County Government of Nyeri had yielded fruits.
"I urge other leaders to work together for in togetherness do great things happen," he stated.
He was accompanied by the Public Service Commission Chairman Stephen Kirogo, area MP Gichuki Mugambi, Regional Commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga, County Commissioner Yatich Kipkemei and the facility CEO Dr John Murima, Nyeri's CEC Health Dr Rachel Kamau, Director Dr Nelson Muriu, among others.
The PSC chairman gave an assurance that the Commission would continue to recruit more staff for the facility with respect to its needs, to ensure that it delivers quality health services while maintaining smooth operations.
The Ksh1 billion fully equipped facility will be the fourth teaching and referral hospital in Kenya, others being Kenyatta National Hospital, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Jaromogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referal Hospital.
The facility comes as a reprieve for patients who will now access services at this facility that will be run by the National Government owing to its status as a Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The 350-bed capacity facility will help decongest Nyeri County Referral Hospital (PGH) and other health facilities in the county, which have patients overflow from other neighbouring counties.
The visit was also part of inducting the over 500 medical staff recently recruited by the Public Service Commission to the facility.
