Waititu Reveals Harrowing Ordeal in Jail

Kiambu Governor, Ferdinand Waititu, on Saturday, disclosed what he went through at the Industrial Area Remand Prison where he was detained for four days.

While speaking during the inspection of Wangige Level Four Hospital, the county boss disclosed that the situation was not pleasant.

He vowed to take action to ensure that those who were incarcerated with him are released as soon as possible.

“I saw our people being eaten by lice and bedbugs over petty offences and I have decided to make sure they are released from the prison.

Waititu went on to add that he was lucky that he was taken to the facility as he had a first-hand experience of what his people go through when they are locked up.

“It was God’s grace that I was taken there to meet and see my people who are suffering in remand.

"The situation in there is unbearable and I have to do something to help my people,” he added.

The embattled governor also revealed that he would chair the county meeting on Wednesday but not inside the headquarters.

He made the move just two days after being released from remand.

On July 30, the governor was released on a Ksh15 million bond and ordered not to return to the office until he case has been heard and determined.

The court also ordered the governor, who is under probe over the loss of Ksh588 million in shoddy deals, to submit his travel documents to the relevant authorities.
