Babu Owino Narrates Being Arrested During KCSE Over Chang'aa [VIDEO]

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino recently opened up about his past life to Citizen TV's Lilian Muli during an interview on the show ‘Newsmakers’.

Babu, who is from a humble background in the Nyalenda slums, Kisumu, in the process confessed to selling Chang’aa to make ends meet.

He narrated to Lilian about the first time he ever landed in a police cell.

The vocal legislator told Lilian how he was nabbed a day before he sat his KCSE Biology practical paper at Kisumu Boys High School.

The lawmaker’s first brush with the law was due to his involvement in the sale of the illicit liquor.

He was taken to the Kisumu Central Police Station, where he was asked to pay a bail of Ksh 500 but despite the minimal amount, he could not afford it.

As the interview continued, Babu thanked the then OCS of the area, one Wanyama, who offered to let him go with a warning.

The officer also offered the legislator a ride in the official police cruiser to his school, where he sat his paper in civilian clothing, as he had no time to go home for school uniform.

Due to his mother's financial inability, Babu was between a rock and a hard place when it came to providing for his family and pursuing his education.

The MP explained his struggled rise from the Nyalenda slums to the august house noting that the journey was not easy at all.

He also explained to Lilian how he almost dropped out of school after his primary national exams, because he never wanted to stress his mother over school fees.
