On Wednesday, Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua, revealed that he had held a unique meeting with International Stakeholders on how to enhance development within his county.
According to Mutua, the meeting was one of its kind, as it has never occurred before.
“The meeting, which is the first one between a County Government and Local and International Development Partners, featured representatives including Ambassadors, Head of Missions, Head of United Nations Bodies, Head of representatives of international funding organizations and global and continental development banks among others.
“We discussed areas of partnership in the development of Machakos, especially on the eradication of poverty, wealth and employment creation. It was a successful trade meeting, Life will never be the same again for Machakos,” Mutua wrote on his Facebook page.
The governor called for the meeting so as to harness resources to alleviate poverty and propel his people from Third World to First World status within the shortest time possible.
“The needs of our people cannot be accommodated with the resources availed by the national government and our own collections. When I was running for re-election as Governor, in 2017, I promised that I will use my international and governance experience to lobby for local and international external resources and investments to help us achieve our Maendeleo Chap Chap agenda before 2022.
“I am very pleased with the large turnout and the fruitful discussions. We highlighted our development agenda, our many successes and the massive remaining gaps which require funding so as to fully achieve our program of poverty eradication and economic growth in all sectors,” Mutua disclosed.
Mutua further revealed that they discussed on how to exploit foreign markets for export of Machakos produce to international markets and foreign direct investment, where factories from abroad will be set up in Machakos.
“I am extremely happy that in our meeting today, we have secured commitments and a clear action plan going forward.
"To my people of Machakos, please look forward to accelerated amazing development over and above what we have already witnessed,” Mutua urged.
