Laboso's Husband's Pledge to New Bomet Governor

The late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso's husband, Edwin Abonyo, has pledged to support the new governor, Hillary Barchok.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at Bomet's Green Stadium in Sotik, on Thursday, Abonyo told Barchok that there was no contest since he had moved to the office smoothly.

"There is no contest, you've moved in very smoothly, at the same time, there is no contestation about you taking over. So both things will take us forward," he stated.

His sentiments came shortly after Barchok was sworn in by High Court judge George Dullu, in a ceremony graced by Deputy President William Ruto.

Barchok noted that he would work with the government to ensure that the values and principles of the late Laboso were followed.

"I commit to ensuring that the values and principles Dr Joyce Laboso stood for will be reflected in my leadership. It is upon us all to live in a way that honours her memory," he divulged.

She also thanked the late Laboso for believing in him and choosing him as her running mate.

"I have lost a dear friend, mentor and super boss with the passing on of Dr Joyce Laboso. To the Laboso and Abonyo families, you will be in my prayers for a long time to come," he stated.

Barchok becomes the third governor in Bomet after the late Laboso and the first-term governor, Isaac Ruto.
