Gov Mutua's Priceless Holiday Gift to Ex-MP & Wife

Former Kamukunji MP, George Nthenge, and his wife Kavata, are about to embark on a fully paid holiday courtesy of Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua.

Speaking at Mzee Nthenge's 92 birthday, on Saturday, the governor praised the former MP's spirit and resilience.

"I congratulate his family, especially his dear wife Kavata for taking care of him. I have offered to take Hon. Nthenge and his wife on a birthday holiday to a place of their choice. They deserve it," Mutua posted.

The former MP's tragic story touched thousands of well-wishers across the country.

Back in 1978, he was involved in an accident in Machakos that wiped out his wife of 25 years and nine of their children.

Nthenge was the driver of the ill-fated Peugeot 504 station wagon that rammed head-on into a truck at the Athi River Bridge, on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

He has since re-married and Mutua was quick to point out that Mzee's willingness to start over should be lauded.

"He is 92 but his mind and sense of humour are as sharp as they come. His smile and glowing eyes are of a man with goodness in his heart," the Machakos governor remarked.

The governor had been invited to take part in the colourful celebration, with Nthenge's close family and friends.

"I was privileged to celebrate the birthday of Hon. George Gregory Wilson Nthenge wa Nguli, as he turned 92," he tweeted.

The 92-year-old is the remaining member of the FORD Political movement that spurred the birth of multiparty democracy in Kenya.
