CS Matiang'i Tackles Killer Gang With Special Security Operation

Interior CS, Fred Matiang'i, launched a special operation to flush out criminal entitities in Mombasa, on Sunday.

The outspoken CS identified drug peddlers as the key reason behind the rise of the infamous killer gang, Wakali Kwanza, that has been enjoying a reign of terror at the coast.

"We are commencing an unprecedented effort to deal with this issue of drug peddling. It is going to be a painful exercise, but we are prepared to start the journey," Matiang'i asserted.

Matiang'i made it clear that he was certain that drug dealers and their benefactors would have nowhere to hide under his watch.

Accompanied by Inspector General of Police, Hilary Mutyambai, the CS declared he would not relent in his push to unearth the powerful individuals behind the drug menace.

"We have lived with this thing for a very long time and we are going to the farthest extent, even if it is reorganising the government's security force structures to address this problem," he vowed.

Matiang'i had travelled to Mombasa following a recent wave of attacks by the coast-based killer gang in Bamburi, Mombasa.

He maintained that the violent youth were being misused by people who are simply after money, adding that his crackdown would not be derailed by influential people involved in the illegal drug trade.

"We cannot surrender our country to thugs. We cannot surrender the lives of our young people to drug dealers who are making money at the expense of our children," he remarked.

Reports by the Standard revealed that 11 people had been arrested so far, in connection to the dreaded gang.
