Govt to Splash Millions in Honour of Raila's Father

The government is set to spend millions of shillings on an iconic structure, in honour of AU Envoy Raila Odinga's father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Museum in Bondo is to undergo a major facelift, at an estimated cost of Ksh 8 million.

This comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta directed that the building be refurbished when he visited Jaramogi’s home, back on December 14, 2018.

The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) also embarked on a Ksh2 billion rehabilitation program that will see 100 heritage centres undergo makeovers.

NMK’s Regional Coordinator in Nyanza, Daniel Mitei, confirmed that the exercise is set to start in August, Capital Fm News reported.

Mitei spoke on Wednesday, as he received NMK Director-General, Mzalendo Kibunjia, in Kisumu.

Kibunjia was in the region to assess preparations for the rehabilitation of the Jaramogi Museum, at Kango ka Jaramogi, home of the founding Vice President of Kenya.

The Director-General affirmed that the planned rehabilitation of the museum was on course.

He announced that rehabilitation works had already started, adding that the sites to be refurbished hold a historical significance to the country.

Some of the centres awaiting rehabilitation have existed for several decades.
