Outrage as DP Ruto's School Visit Costs Parents Ksh 3k Each

A school in Kiambu has sparked the outrage of netizens after a section of its end of term newsletter was leaked on the internet.

Maria Immaculata Education Centre in Kamiti,  had requested that parents should pay an extra Ksh 3,000 at the beginning of the third term.

The reason behind the contribution was the actual cause of anger for Kenyans and believe it or not, the money was meant to prepare to welcome Deputy President William Ruto.

“Through the providence of our God, the deputy president has promised to visit our school on September 14, 2019. Through the School Advisory Board, we kindly request you to be part and parcel of this event,

“Therefore, we are requesting each parent to contribute an additional amount of Ksh 3,000 to welcome the visitor. You are most welcome on that day. Thank you in advance and may God bless you,” part of the letter read.

Kenyans were not left out in bashing the school for what most of them called extortion, while others questioned the valued it would add to the pupils.

On behalf of the parent I need to ask, of what benefit will this political business benefit my child? Why will I pay to be visited? Who requested for him to visit because we did not?” asked Joyce Buoro.

Others asked the parents of the said school to keep their children at home, at least until a day past the DP's visit.

I would type a response and categorically state my child will not be in school on that material day to welcome the visitor. Ngiri tatu, kwani wako na kichaa (Ksh 3000, are they mad)? questioned Wairimu Kamau.

Another parent was quick to note that during retired President Daniel Arap Moi’s tenure, the pupils were the audience while the politicians brought the money, not vice versa.
