President Uhuru Kenyatta had a hand in the quelling of the noisy and messy tiff between Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, Sonko has revealed.
He was speaking on Sunday, during an interview on K24TV Punchline with Anne Kiguta.
“We indeed used to have issues but I think we had them sorted. I think the President called him and called me. We had tea together and shook hands. We are now working together,” Sonko revealed.
The Sonko and Kibicho feud started during the Jubilee party primaries when his certificate of good conduct was allegedly held back until President Uhuru stepped in and demanded its release.
"Kibicho and his cartel tried to block me from vying as governor. They tried to frustrate my efforts to obtain a certificate of good conduct but shetani akashindwa," he once claimed.
Sonko has openly spoken more than once about respecting the presidency but having issues with one man, the Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.
Once, on an interview on Kameme FM, Sonko dismissed Kibicho as a very small man who was issuing him with orders about how to run the county.
Kibicho did not spare him and countered back when he heard of the jibe.
"They have paranoia, which needs to be cured. Let them deal with their accusations and accusers. Let them carry their cross," he had said, dismissing Sonko's assertions.
Sonko, during the interview, also gave a clarion call to the deputy president, asking him to mend walls with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga just as the president did.
The two have made no efforts to mask the open hostility between then, with each seeing the other as an impediment to their 2022 presidential race.
