8 Most Dangerous Roads in Nairobi 2019

Nairobi County is once again leading in the number of fatal road accidents and several city roads have been ranked as the most dangerous to drive on.

According to a report released by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the county recorded a total of 275 deaths between January 1 and August 19, 2019.

Broken down, the roads that experienced the greatest fatalities were Mombasa Road which recorded 27 deaths and Outering Road which had 25.

The others were Waiyaki Way (18) and Thika Road, (18) Kangundo Road (16), Jogoo Road (12), Eastern Bypass (12) each and Juja Road (10).

According to the report, the accidents were mostly caused by private vehicles while Tuktuks were least likely to be involved in accidents.

The report also listed the safest roads which are Northern Bypass, Mwiki-Kasarani and Lang’ata and Enterprise roads that recorded three deaths each over the same period.

Other counties which recorded high numbers of road fatalities included Kiambu (183), Machakos (141), Nakuru (134), Makueni (87), Murang’a (82), Kericho (74), and Nyeri (72).

The report also indicated that in Nairobi, 163 of the deaths were pedestrians, followed by motorcyclists (48) passengers (34), drivers (15).

Nationwide,  2,181 deaths were recorded for that period which was an increase from 1905 from the same period last year.

Eight hundred and thirty nine of the overall deaths were of pedestrians.
