City Tycoons Charged for Ignoring Sonko

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, was unrelenting in his pursuit of building owners who failed to comply with his directive, that they repaint their properties.

The business owners were, on Wednesday, charged for contravening the Public Health Cap 242 and County By-Laws that require them to repaint their buildings after every two years.

Charles Ndung'u Mwangi and Anne Nana Matei are the two individuals who have so far been charged and arraigned in court.

On May 28, 2019, Sonko had issued a 30-day notice for all individuals who claimed ownership of buildings located within the CBD to have them repainted and renovated.

“Nairobi is a commercial hub. We should make sure that it is beautiful and clean.

"All buildings should be repainted. Owners have a choice to either maintain their original colours or change them as they wish,” read a statement sent to newsrooms by the governor.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, County Director of Communications, Jacob Elkana, confirmed the arrests, adding that the county government was keen on ensuring that the Kenyan capital held on to its status, as the commercial hub of East and Central Africa.

"A major crackdown is ongoing especially within CBD," Elkana disclosed.

The governor recently received accolades from across the globe over his beautification projects across Nairobi.
