City's Most Wanted Carjackers Nabbed in Night Raid

  • Three of the most wanted gang members of a notorious carjacking syndicate were arrested following a covert night raid on Saturday.

    Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), traced the trio to their den at West View Plaza in Kahawa West, Nairobi.

    According to the DCI, the suspects are believed to be behind a string of robberies in Kasarani and Roysambu, with the use of psychotropic drugs on their unsuspecting victims at nightclubs their prefered mode of operation.

    "Several items were confiscated during the operation by DCI detectives based at Kasarani, including a Toyota Probox, phones, several SIM cards and assorted psychotropic drugs," DCI tweeted.

    The gang's leader was identified as 33-year-old Stephen Njoroge Njihia, while his accomplices were named as Gladys Wanjiku, 36, and Francis Kinyanjui, 53.

    Area DCIO Mwenda Meme, while speaking to Citizen Digital, disclosed that numerous complaints by residents of Kasarani, Garden Estate and Kahawa West, is what led them to carry out a sting operation to root out the culprits.

    He further revealed that a fourth unidentified suspect was still at large.

    These latest arrests come barely 2 weeks since Arthur Gakuya, a police officer from Vigilance House, reportedly lost more than Ksh 450,000 to two women, Peninah Afandi and Everlyne Asendi, who allegedly spiked his drink.

    Officer Gakuya was then forced to give up his two ATM cards and their PIN numbers, with the ladies going on to purchase high-end electronics and other household items.

    Detectives reportedly recovered the entire loot from the women’s homes in Kayole and Umoja.
