Kericho Senator, Aaron Cheruiyot, who is a close ally of DP William Ruto, hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta for betraying people who live in Mau.
Speaking on Sunday, September 1, the outspoken senator claimed that the president had promised to help the people of Mau during his 2017 campaigns only to backtrack when he got the top office.
To prove his allegations, Cheruiyot added that he was by Uhuru's side when he made the pledge and even donated Ksh10 million to the region and promised to improve their schools.
"I want to know from President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto whether they have changed their public position to the issue.
"They promised people living in this area that they shall build their schools, hospitals and roads if they voted for Jubilee," argued Cheruiyot.
The Star also reported that the senator, together with Belgut MP, Nelson Koech, were demanding to have a one-on-one with the president to understand his sudden turn.
"It is now on you Mr President and your deputy to keep your side of the bargain," continued Cheruiyot.
It is estimated that if the state proceeds with its planned evictions, over 10,000 children will be affected and over 31 schools risk being closed.
The schools are located in Ololulunga, Melelo, Sogoo and Segemian wards.
According to reports, over 60,000 families have been given 60 day-ultimatum to leave the land by October 31.
