The embattled Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General, Wilson Sossion, landed a major victory after he was reinstated and granted full access to the Union's accounts on Monday.
This came just a few days after he was forcefully thrown out of office by the newly appointed KNUT officials.
Sossion had through lawyer Judith Guserwa, moved to challenge the legality of his expulsion, as the decision was made during a meeting.
Justice Helen Wasilwa reinstated Sossion pending the hearing of an application to nullify the August 29, 2019, Knut National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, with Sossion maintaining that the council breached a court order.
“That the Honourable Court be pleased to order the status quo of the KNUT register of officials obtaining prior to August 29, 2019, to be maintained with regard to the operations o the KNUT Bank Accounts at Kenya Commercial Bank, Equity Bank and Standard Chartered Bank pending further orders of the Court,”Justice Wasila ruled.
NEC, through lawyer Okongo Omogeni reacted immediately by applying to have the secretary-general permanently evicted for his office, as well as applying to have Sossion once again barred from the Union's accounts.
The ODM nominated MP, who was deregistered as a Knut official by the Registrar of Societies last week.
Reports by Citizen Digital revealed that the union's Chairman Wycliff Omucheyi had defended their move to oust Ruto, over what he termed as anomalies.
Justice Wasilwa further disclosed that all applications would be heard on Septemeber 3, 2019.
