Ruto Pokes Holes Into Uhuru's Project

Deputy President William Ruto unleashed a scathing attack on President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader, Raila Odinga, accusing the two of initiating a project that is out to waste the time of Kenyans.

Ruto lashed out while speaking at a public rally in Narumoru, Nyeri county on Sunday, September 1.

Raila and Uhuru came up with the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) after the famous handshake and created a committee to write a report on what Kenyans proposed towards the change of the constitution.

Ruto stated that Kenyans did not have a problem with the constitution arguing that failure to accept election results was the real reason behind the BBI.

"Let us not be fooled that there is a problem in the country. Only one person (Raila) has a problem and his issue is refusing to accept when he loses an election. The committee has wasted time travelling around the country lying to us that they are finding out the opinions of Kenyans.

"The BBI committee should have just listened to Raila Odinga's opinions and how the initiative should assist him to learn on how to accept the outcome of an election," Ruto ranted while speaking at a public rally in Narumoru, Nyeri County on Sunday, September 1.

He went on to tear into Odinga, warning him against creating divisions within Jubilee.

"We brought him into the government to teach him how to work, however, he does not understand it yet. We will not allow a guest to bring down Jubilee, a national party with a development agenda," the DP lashed out.

The second in command also narrowed down on Jubilee and ODM MPs seeking to change the constitution to create additional executive positions. He opined that the proposed posts would enhance tribalism.

"Why should we change the constitution to please three or five people and a number of communities. Those proposing such a change are agents of tribalism. I want to tell my friends who are making ridiculous proposals... if you want to change the constitution to create five positions for five communities what will happen to the other communities?

"Are we solving inclusion or are we entrenching and constitutionalising marginalisation and exclusion?" Ruto wondered.

Even as Ruto rallies his troops to oppose the BBI, Cabinet Secretaries have now been ordered to back it.

The Standard on Tuesday, September 3, reported that the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet, Joseph Kinyua, listed support for BBI as a key performance area in Cabinet.
