Sonko's Daughter Recalls Violent Beating by Ex-Boyfriend

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's daughter Saumu Mbuvi, on Tuesday, opened up on a toxic relationship she was once in.

Speaking with Massawe Jappani on Radio Jambo, the businesswoman revealed that she was a victim of domestic abuse in a previous relationship.

"We started as friends and dated for nine months and we broke up when I was heavily pregnant. He used to beat me and after sharing with friends I went to my dad and told him I couldn't take it any more," she disclosed.

Saumu added that she was young and naive and had rushed into a relationship.

"I was 21, rebellious and I didn’t think. You know when there is a rebellious stage you don’t know what you want, you rush into relationships," she stated.

After informing her father, Sonko didn't get violent with her then-boyfriend.

"He sat me down asked me what I am planning for life, and told me I am going to be a parent, and wants to see the best in me," she added.

She advised women not to get stuck in a toxic relationship as it would not only cause physical harm but also result in emotional scars.

"I wouldn't advise women to stay single after they break up with their baby daddies. Look for a father figure. A dad is very important in every child's life," she conveyed.
