DP Ruto Launches Campaign for Mariga in Kibra

Deputy President William Ruto, on Tuesday, September 3, launched campaigns for McDonald Mariga in the upcoming Kibra by-election, after he toured the area to open a 580-bed dormitory at Moi Girls High School.

The DP was in Kibra just a day after Jubilee Party settled on the ex-footballer as its candidate in the mini poll. Mariga reportedly scored 500 out of 600 marks boasting a clean A in the interviews.

Ruto addressed Kibra residents and promised to return for the by-elections campaign as seen in a video by Kenyans.co.ke

"Leo nilikuwa nimeletwa na mambo ya masomo lakini ntarudi. Hiyo maneno nyingine mimi naona kuna jamaa anasema sijui aiiih lakini ntarudi (Today I have visited regarding education but I'll be back to discuss the 'other' issue. There is a guy saying this and that...but I will be back)," Ruto told the residents who had mobbed him.

The locals further inquired when he will be back and Ruto coyly responded,  after they shouted that they wanted him to return on a Sunday.

"Mtanata nikuje Jumapili? Haya pangeni hiyo mambo tutakuja (You want me to come on Sunday? Then organise yourselves and I will come back," Ruto spoke amid cheers from the crowd.

While unveiling the dormitory, Ruto stated that the late Ken Okoth's successor must emulate his works in promoting education among Kibra children.

"Masomo ni ya muhimu nataka muelewe. Vile vile najua vijana hawajaenda shule, ndo maana tunajenga technical college hapa Lang'ata na mashule hapa Lang'ata. Yule ambaye atachaguliwa lazima ashughulike mambo ya shule (Education is very important and this is why we are building technical institutes to equip our jobless youth and whoever is elected must continue with that legacy)," Ruto weighed in on the matter, as reported by The Star.

Mariga will face Amani National Congress' aspirant Eliud Owalo, Ford Kenya’s Khamisi Butichi and an ODM candidate who is yet to be announced.
