Ruto's Murder Plot Witness Turns Against DCI

New claims have surfaced revealing how Directorate of CriminaI Investigation (DCI) officers apparently forced a witness to implicate Deputy President William Ruto in the alleged assassination plot against him

According to The Standard on Wednesday, September 4, Samuel Giteri, who has since asked to be withdrawn from the case, claims DCI officers intimidated him with death threats.

"I was under arrest and they told me that they would go ahead and execute me if I did not confirm I had a telephone conversation with the DP and Dennis Itumbi."

"They further threatened that they would take me to a high ranking security personnel in government so that I could be dealt with," Gateri alleged in his affidavit as reported by The Standard

On Tuesday, September 3, reports only stated that Gateri had claimed that the state officials forced him to confess about having personal knowledge of DP and Itumbi.

He further affirmed that after his arrest by officers from the DCI on July 2, 2019, his items including phone, National ID Card were taken away. This, he said, has made life hard for him as he cannot drive or even access basic services due to the seizure of his items.

He also intimated that after these items were taken from him, he was threatened and coerced into signing a statement that he did not record and whose contents he is not aware of until now.

DCI Kenya, on Monday, September 2, distanced themselves from the said witness. It tweeted that Samwel Gateri was not one of the state witnesses, as was reported by several local publications.

"We wish to clarify that contrary to insinuation by one Samwel Gateri that he’s a state witness in respect to the criminal case against one Ole Itumbi, is false and misleading," an excerpt of the tweet disclosed.

Dennis Itumbi was arraigned in court and charged with authoring a false document on the alleged assassination of Deputy President William Ruto.

He is out on Ksh100,000 cash bail.
