Reason Sonko Stayed at EACC for 9 Hours

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, on Wednesday, September 4, came clean on why he was at the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) offices for over 9-hours.

The governor refuted claims that he spent almost half a day answering questions regarding dubious garbage collection tenders.

County Director of Communications, Jacob Elkana, while speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, went on to reveal that the governor had indeed arrived the EACC offices at around 6 a.m.

However, the governor maintained that he found the investigating officers who had summoned him unavailable since they had been deployed in the field.

After making some inquiries, the governor opted to wait for them at their offices.

Uknown to him, the officers would take almost 8 hours to get back to the office, arriving at around 1:30 p.m.

Sonko was then called in at around 2 p.m, for a grilling session regarding the changes in garbage collection companies within his county.

Interestingly, one of the companies which had been ousted from Nairobi county's list of service providers belonged to former Governor Evans Kidero, which was allegedly replaced by a company that was willing to offer similar services for over Ksh150 million less.

While leaving EACC offices at 4 p.m., Sonko addressed the media assuring residents that he was not under probe.

“I’m not under investigation, but I was summoned as the boss of the county to come and shed light," he announced.
