Magistrate Arrested Over Missing Heroin Worth Millions

A principal magistrate, Edgar Matsigulu Kagoni, was arrested on Saturday, 7, 2019, for the reckless handling of heroin worth Ksh 30 million.

The magistrate was arrested alongside three other court officials namely; Abdalla Awadh Abubakar (Executive Assistant, Mombasa Law Courts), Lawrence Thoya Bayan (Support staff Mombasa Law Courts) and Onesmus Momanyi (Court Assistant, Ruiru Law courts).

“The magistrate and the three other court officials are all in lawful custody awaiting to be charged on Monday,” DCI boss George Kinoti stated.

Additionally, money in different foreign currencies valued at over Ksh600,000 is also said to have been misplaced.

The DCI boss confirmed that the magistrate had been booked at the Kilindini Port Police Station while the other three were detained at Makupa Police Station, Nyali Police Station and ICD Police Station in Nairobi.

The four will be charged with obstruction with intent to defeat justice and aiding/abetting trafficking in narcotic drugs.

The offenses were committed in July 2019 at the Mombasa Law Courts.

A source privy to the matter stated that the orders of arrest came from anti-narcotics director, Dr Hamisi Massa.

The director had been at the Coast region to deal with drug cases.
