Bobasi MP Innocent Momanyi Obiri was arrested on Friday, September 6, 2019, after being implicated in a Ksh4 billion corruption scam.
Citizen Digital reported that Momanyi was arrested in Nairobi, alongside Zhang Jing, a director at a company identified as Erdmann Property.
They were among over 30 suspects wanted for inflating the construction cost for the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) mall by Ksh1.8 billion.
Momanyi was named in the investigations as the managing director of Quantech Consultancy, which is said to have issued a final account of Ksh4.1 billion, an inflated amount way above the originally agreed terms.
DPP Noordin Haji also ordered the arrest of Kisumu County Assembly Speaker and ex-TNA Secretary General Onyango Oloo.
Investigations were launched by EACC, following a complaint received on July 28, 2015, that the cost of the LBDA mall had been inflated.
The DPP, in a statement sent to newsrooms, stated that the probed unearthed amongst many irregularities, collusion between some LBDA board members and Erdemann Properties Limited.
Also mentioned in the bribery allegations was George Omollo Odawa who was the chairman of the Finance and Establishment Committee of LBDA. He is accused of receiving a bribe of Ksh12 million.
Oloo is claimed to have received a bribe of Ksh17 million.
The LBDA management reportedly advertised for the construction of the mall, and even after learning that the three firms that applied were not in a position to carry through with the contract, they awarded one of them the tenders in 2013.
