Deputy President William Ruto on Friday, September 6, lamented over Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny's betrayal even after the help he says he gave him during President Uhuru Kenyatta’ first term.
Ruto was speaking in Kutuny's backyard in Cherangany where he claimed the area legislator, who once served as Uhuru’s adviser after losing his seat, had turned his back on his own constituents too.
“Among the Kalenjin people, there is a phrase that says when a cow breaks its leg, you tie the animal and treat it. It will heal soon, and, thereafter, you will continue getting milk from it," Ruto analogised.
“Sadly, for a human being, when he breaks an arm, you treat him but he will later use the healed arm to slap you,” Ruto spoke at the burial of Mzee Kibiwott Koross, a former KCC director, in a jibe aimed at Kutuny.
The DP accused Kutuny of being used to cause trouble in the Rift Valley, adding that time for divisive politics was over.
Ruto also hit out at the MP, claiming that he had abandoned his constituency in favour of serving certain people in Nairobi.
“Anyway, for you people of Cherengany, I have no issues with you whatsoever. Let us continue marching forth along the development path. Some of these leaders, when they go to Nairobi, they change their character and, maybe, get confused in the process. They are hired to speak on behalf of certain factions, are fed, and when satisfied, they are given a spear to throw back home."
“That same leader [Kutuny], forgets that it is at home where his father, mother, siblings and his community live.
“Nonetheless, let’s forgive them. What I can assure you, people of Cherengany, is that I won’t abandon you. No one will oppress you so long as I am here. I, however, plead with these young men to go slow, when it comes to matters politics,” Ruto hit out.
Kapseret MP, who was at the same event, also unleashed a verbal attack against Kutuny, citing that he had misguidedly teamed up with Uhuru’s political adviser Nancy Gitau.
“If you link up with a woman who is older than you, things will definitely go wrong. Because the biggest problem with your MP is that he chose to work with an older woman who imposed herself on him, even without Kutuny knowing what is wrong or right."
"I would like to advise Kutuny to leave Nancy alone. She will destroy your life and already I can see you’re not in the right direction," the vocal MP expressed.
Speaking to Ruto, Sudi went on and stated, “Your excellency, sometimes we should forgive these kinds of people but then again he will be forgiven in 2022."
