A member of the Nyamira County Assembly was on Saturday, September 7, arrested after a form four school girl accused him of kidnapping and defilement.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba revealed that Magwagwa Ward Representative Fred Nyachae Omaiyo was accused of defiling a 17-year-old girl.
According to Daily Nation, the girl, who is a student at a Kisumu school, had gone missing for a few days, but showed up claiming that she had been abducted, the commissioner stated.
"The girl's mother had reported at Ekerenyo Police Station that her daughter was missing."
"But the girl later showed up claiming she had been abducted and detained by the said MCA at a Kisii hotel," Mariba added.
The girl whose name was withheld was taken to the Ekerenyo Sub-County Hospital for examination.
Mariba divulged that the MCA was in the custody of law enforcement agencies and was expected to be arraigned before the court on charges of kidnapping and defilement.
this is not the first time the legislator finds himself on the wrong side of the law.
In January 2019, he had been arrested for disrupting a meeting convened by his colleagues at a Kisumu hotel.
The meeting chaired by Deputy Speaker and Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Robinson Mocheche, was in progress until Magwagwa Ward MCA Fred Nyachae Omaiyo stormed the venue.
He stated that the meetings held outside the county were a waste of resources as he tried to evict them from the hotel.
