As the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission proceeds with its investigations into corruption allegations at City hall, a firm linked to Deputy President William Ruto has been linked to the money trail.
According to the Nation, Amaco Insurance which is linked to DP Ruto, had a contract to insure the county's government vehicles.
"On the other hand, the same company has an ongoing three-year contract with Arbab Auto Care Ltd, a garage located on Kangundo Road, where the county government’s vehicles are taken for repairs," the publication revealed.
Arbab is owned Anthony Otieno Ombok alias Jamal, who is alleged to have paid the governor Ksh3.4 Million.
The Nation quoted sources who revealed that the governor attributed the payment from Ombok to a land parcel in Mavoko which he had sold to the businessman in 2017 while serving as Senator.
He further told the investigators that the upon taking office in 2017, the treasury released Ksh100 Million through the Integrated Financial Management Information System to pay Amaco for services rendered.
The company allegedly wired more than Ksh20 million in bank transfers of Ksh10.7 million, Ksh7.5 Million and Ksh5.3 Million to Arbab.
On Thursday 5, 2019, Sonko explained where Ksh20 million found in his account by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) came from.
The county boss stated that the money had been acquired from businesses that he had engaged in before he became the governor.
When quizzed about unremitted tax, the governor maintained that he had paid all of the county's taxes apart from those that had been incurred during former Governor Evans Kideros's tenure.
"Currently we don't have a problem. We have paid more than Sh5 billion in taxes. The problem that has arisen is from the previous regime," he noted.
