Babu Owino's Message to Mariga Sparks Outrage

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, on Sunday, September 8, sent out a warning shot to Jubilee Party's Kibra by-election McDonald Mariga.

However, the vocal MPs choice of words as well as the image he chose to share to accompany his message elicited thousands of reactions from netizens.

"I will be in-charge of Kibra by-election and I will ensure that ODM candidate Wins. Mariga hauna bahati when I’m in charge better step aside because the political wheel will molest you," read an excerpt of Owino's message.

He then went on to use some unsavoury words in a bid to threaten Mariga into submission, which did not go down well with some of the netizens.

"If anybody would stick to his or her career, you won't be in parliament, let everyone try his or her luck in a position of leadership," Koech Kipkorir posted.

"I agree that politics is a dirty game. However, by using this picture you have indeed confirmed that you are underage/yet to mature despite being an elected member of parliament. Do you sometimes respect your moral senses jatelo?" JC Ogweno posed.

There were those who shared hilarious comments, mocking the party for its recent nomination of Imran Okoth - brother to the late Ken Okoth, as ODM's candidate.

"Kibra nominations was not free and fair. How can a big party like ODM conduct a nomination without Teargas, Men in Black and destroying the ballot boxes?" Willis Ochieng posted.

Others simply reminded him of how his party lost in the Embakasi North by-election despite his wholehearted campaign for ODM's Irshad Sumra, who was humbled by Wiper party candidate Julius Mawathe back on April 6, 2019.

Despite hundreds of Kenyans flooding his timeline and blasting the MP for his choice of words as well as the picture he chose to accompany his message, there were those who remained loyal to Owino and his ODM party.

"Mheshimiwa, your strong personality and straightforwardness are admired by many. Your tender heart which bleeds to secure the oppressed is one reason why God loves you," Pius Oneya posted.

Majority of the netizens who flooded the MPs facebook page were in support of Imran Okoth's candidacy but still felt that Owino's choice of words and accompanying image crossed the line.
