A Kenyan police officer has won the heart of Kenyans after a photo was posted online showing him teaching class five pupils.
Jairus Mulumia, a police officer based in Forole - at the border of Kenya and Ethiopia - is reported to have taken it upon himself to teach students who showed up to class after teachers failed to attend to them.
The teachers at Forole Primary School had not reported due to insecurity in the area. This follows a series of banditry attacks in the area, which had left several people dead.
According to a post by Education Development Trust - Africa, the officer, who is a trained teacher, sought permission from the headteacher to teach the pupils after noticing them idling in class.
Apparently, only girls in that class had the courage to come to school that day.
Many took to social media to appreciate Mulumia's efforts stating that he should be awarded for his selflessness.
"What a great soldier you are. God's blessings all through brother. Great work and God in heaven will reward," one user noted.
Other noted that the act was noble and it should be adopted in other areas as well.
"Maybe we should adopt this on areas with security challenges, double profession," another Kenyan noted.
